813-11

HANDMADE PERUVIAN CHULUCANA ART POTTERY VASE - SIGNED J. SOSA This stunning large art pottery vase was made at the Chulucanas pottery located on the north coast of Peru. The base color is a very dark brown to black and is decorated in reverse with deep orange dots.

The Chulucanas pottery has been creating unique clay items for centuries. The inhabitants of the town of Chulucana descend from the Tallanes, the ancient pre-Columbian people that inhabited this region. They developed the negative, or reverse technique, ceramics displayed today in some museums under the name of Vicús pottery.

The vase is signed and dated on the base by José Sosa. He began working with pottery in 1975 and continues working today with his wife Rosita. The vase is in very good condition, with one minor rim chip, no cracks.

A wonderful display and collectors vase.
