This is an authentic vintage (not a reproduction) ceramic Black Mammy string or twine holder; dressed in a Plaid and Polka-Dot Dress with a white apron trimmed in green. The string outlet is at her waist just above her folded hands; 7 inches tall; two hang holes at the back; dates from 1921 -1941; marked on inside bottom Handpainted, Japan, (with the M-in-wreath mark). Note: we do guarantee this to be a period string holder and not a reproduction.
Condition: very good, no chips,nicks, cracks or hairlines; under magnification there is some minor overall glaze crazing; loss of overglaze (cold painted) color to head scarf; 2 small specks of white paint on her face, all other overglaze decoration is in excellent condition including black color |
