This is the base to a mid-century (ca 1930-50) silverplate entree dish made by the Sheffield Silver Company of New York. The silver plated frame is supported on modified Chippendale-style legs ending in paw form feet; the two alcohol burners are supported by a wire cross-frame; metal warming plate sits inside the top frame. Marked under frame: Sheffield Silver Co., Brooklyn NY; 1908 - 1974.
Condition: missing original water pan, dish and top; frame is excellent, no loss to silver plate, no dents; metal top plate has some discoloration from heat/ use. Note: this is electroplated silver and not to be confused with old 18th c. Sheffield plate! |
