Large figurial Japanese Satsuma vase in beaker form or trumpet vase with flaring rim, decorated with two gilt highlighted panels, the first depicting an armor clad warrior standing in front of a bamboo grove on a fine crackled ground, his shield and flag with gilt House of Satsuma style crest, the second a landscape scene depicting a bluebird flying amoung bamboo on fine crackled ground, the rim and base with slip trailed flowers on cobalt ground; the base with red unattributed character mark of potter/pottery; dates from ca 1870 to 1915
CONDITION: repaired rim chip, gilding rubbed at bottom of vase, no loss to designs |
