Large figurial Japanese Satsuma vase in beaker form with flaring rim, decorated with two gilt highlighted panels, the first depicting an armor clad warrior standing in front of a bamboo grove on a fine crackled ground, his shield and flag with gilt House of Satsuma style crest, the second a landscape scene depicting a bluebird flying amoung bamboo on fine crackled ground, the rim and base with slip trailed flowers on cobalt ground; the base with red unattributed character mark of potter/pottery; dates from ca 1870 to 1915
CONDITION: repaired rim chip, gilding rubbed at bottom of vase, no loss to designs |
