Dating from the late 19th to very early 20th century, this imposing English ironstone pedestal base jardiniere (or centerpiece bowl) is hand painted in the Imari pallet of cobalt blue and iron red on a white ground with gilt highlights. The flaring rim and foot ring are decorated with alternating floral and geometric bands. The base bears the maker's mark of AJ Wilkinson Ltd /Royal Staffordshire and dates from 1896 - 1910; which is the pottery famous for producing the wares of Clarice Cliff.
This jardiniere is in excellent condition, with only very minor wear to gilt along rim and some discoloration / watermarks to inside; no chips, nicks or cracks. Note: this item being Ironstone, is heavy |
