Pond yachts which could float on ponds and lakes were popular with children in the 1920s and 1930s. British toy manufacturers began concentrating on a range of clockwork tin boats, including speedboats and cabin cruisers in the 1930s. Later, the increased use of plastics for toys included boats. The Tri-ang brand produced a successful range of large scale plastic clockwork civilian boats like this one in the 1950s and 1960s.
A LITTLE HISTORY OF: Tri-ang Toys was the brand name of the Lines Brothers - a triangle is made up of three lines (three Lines brothers) - and the factory was named Tri-ang Works. Founded by Lines Brothers, the International Model Aircraft Ltd., was a pioneer in the model aircraft business, and was later recognized as the finest in the world; having produced the first ever range of flying model aircraft - FROG (flies right off the ground). |
